This assignment requires that you have an intercultural interaction with someone from a culture different than your own. Choose someone from another culture (not someone from another region, age, etc.). You are responsible for reading about the culture in depth, comparing them to your identified culture noticing similarities and differences. Your evaluation, mingling, and understanding of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions, Hall’s high context and low context cultures and the culture’s social practices/cultural norms and nonverbal communication norms will provide the tools necessary to prepare a paper that will demonstrate your understanding of the culture in comparison to your own.

You may find a person from another culture from anywhere — preferably even someone you don’t know! If you live in an area without much cultural diversity, ask someone if they know someone from another culture who you can interview by phone or Facetime/Skype, etc. Even one of your classmates may know someone you can contact via email who lives in another country. Facebook might help you as well!

Using at least level 2 heading style, such as outlined on the attached sample document, which includes sample interview questions:

Write a 1,300 – to 1,400 word paper about another culture from the interview you conducted. Address the following:

Specific examples of Hall’s low or high context culture and each of Hofstede’s dimensions reflected in the particular culture.

Evaluate/explain at least two of the social practices/cultural norms common to the culture that are unique (i.e. not that French people love baguettes, a bit more depth than that!). Use something like the Mexican quinceanera.

Illustrate examples of nonverbal intercultural communication within the culture.

Explain any stereotypes held about this culture. Are they consistent with stereotypes you’ve heard? Are they stereotypes your interviewee commonly experiences or that is routinely depicted in media? Give an example or two.

Remember to relate these to what you learned in your text and the additional peer reviewed resource used. This is not just a conversation but an academic assignment.

I choose Indian culture, ensure you explore any interesting cultures. Their religion, view of marriage and common male chauvinism should be discussed as the stereotype.
