Paper topic Introduction to Catholic Thought
Choose an issue of social justice to consider.
I. Outline that issue, including the benefits and drawbacks that the issue could create
for a community/society.
ll. Consider that issue in light of the idea of human dignity that we will outline in
class. As you consider human dignity, include especially the idea that every created
thing expresses the divine force that holds things in existence and the preferential
option for the poor. You do not have to believe in these two ideas personally, but
you should define them and explain how they impact the social issue.
You should consider how the issue that you consider could promote human dignity
or could violate human dignity. Then you should consider how that issue actually
works in society today to promote or violate human dignity.
If you do not personally believe in these two ideas, make an appointment during
office hours to talk with me about your perspective and I will help you to frame the
paper in terms of your ideas as they relate to these ideas.
lll. Technical details for the paper:
Paper should be written according to the following:
o The paper should be 4-6 pages in length.
0 12 point, Times New Roman font, double-spaced.
0 Use the MLA reference system.
0 Make sure that every reference to a source in your paper shows the title of
the work and the page number for your source.
0 Make sure to include a bibliography page of works cited at the end of your
paper.
0 You should find two sources from peer reviewed journals (the librarian can
helpfyoutoafindthose] to help you explain the social issue that you choose.
If you are writing your paper in conjunction with your English class, check
with your English professor to see how many sources you need and what
kind they should be. For the purposes of this class, you may use as many
sources in addition to two peer-reviewed journals as you like.
