Late penalty:
If the assignment is submitted on or after the due date and time and before 4:0opm on the following
day, it will be one day late and will incur a penalty of 10% of the weighting (i.e., 4.5 marks). If submitted
on or after 4:0opm on the day following the due date it will be two days late and will incur a 20%
penalty, and so on for each day (including weekends) it is late up to a maximum of 10 days, at which
time the penalty will be 100% of what the assignment is worth.

Submission method:
This assignment must be submitted online via Turnitin only (i.e., no hard copy submission; no
submission to unit coordinator/tutor via email). A cover sheet is not required, so please do not use a
coversheet. Research reports submitted by the original due date will be returned with feedback via
vUWS MyGrades at the end of week 13 (i.e., by 5pm Friday 14 October).
Specific guidelines for the electronic submission of the research report assessment task will be
provided on the unit vUWS site.
Students are advised to familiarise themselves with University policy regarding plagiarism and the
associated penalties (see attached Student Resources document).

Marking Criteria
The report is the major written component of the unit and is expected to demonstrate a high degree of
effort and effective application of knowledge and skills taught in the unit. In order to obtain a pass mark
of at least 50% there must be: an adequate standard of presentation, literacy, and academic writing
skills; adequate adherence to APA report writing conventions; and, adequate understanding
demonstrated of the substantive content of the research project. More advanced standards and skills in
these areas, evidence of higher-level critical thinking ability, and greater depth of understanding will be
required in order to attain higher grades.
General grading criteria for the Research Report are as follows:
High Distinction (85 – 100%):
Work of outstanding quality. Clear understanding of the content area, appropriate citation, description
and analysis of the literature, insightful discussion of your finding in comparison with previous research,
adherence to APA report writing conventions.
Distinction (75 – 84%):
Work of superior quality demonstrating a sound grasp of the content, together with efficient organisation
and appropriate selectivity.
Credit (65 – 74%):
Work of good quality and adherence to APA report writing conventions, demonstrated understanding of
content.
Pass (50 – 64%):
Work showing satisfactory achievement. Appropriate citation of literature, rudimentary demonstrated
understanding of the substantive content, organised presentation, adequate adherence to APA report
writing conventions.
Fail (0-49%):
Unsatisfactory performance. Little, if any, demonstrated understanding of the content; disorganised
presentation; and little, if any, adherence to APA report writing conventions.
