Issues regarding the credibility of the argument

Choose an article relevant to your own professional field, or field of interest. The article can be on the internet or in hard-copy form, but it should be of the quality of a professional journal – it should not be from a magazine, newspaper, etc. The article should be at least two pages long, but not so long as to be unreasonable to paraphrase and analyze in a short paper.

Write a 2-3 page analysis of the argument demonstrating the critical thinking skills we have covered in our class. The paper does not need to be written in the flowing prose of a term paper; in fact, you can number the paragraphs according to the elements stated in the guidelines. Here are the guidelines:

1. Give the bibliographical reference to the article.

2. Paraphrase the argument in terms of premises and conclusions.

(It may be helpful to review the first Section of our course, and the practice assignment on Euthanasia earlier in this last Section of our course.)

3. Identify instances of appeals to emotion, bias, and uses of rhetorical language. (It may be helpful to review Section 4 of our course.)

4. Identify formal and/or informal fallacies if they are present. (It may be helpful to review Sections 3 and 4 of our course.)

5. Indicate issues regarding the credibility of the argument if there are such concerns.

6. Give your own evaluation of the argument in terms of its overall strengths and weaknesses.
