Section 1: Information Systems Overview
Describe an organization of your choice. You will use this organization as you focus on the concept of information systems.
With all of the available choices and technology, describe how the organization goes about the process of choosing the information system.
Discuss the job functions that are needed to support the intended information system used by the organization.
Include a description about how an organization can determine the effectiveness of an information system.
You should provide at least 2-3 pages of discussion for this information.
Section 2: Information Systems Concepts
Define and describe the different uses for a Local Area Network (LAN) and a Wide Area Network (WAN), and discuss which solution is most appropriate for your chosen organization.
Describe Wi-Fi and telecommuting. What are the issues associated with allowing this technology to access the organization’s network?
Do you see either as being applicable for your selected organization?
You should provide at least 2-3 pages of discussion for this information.
Section 3: Business Information Systems
Information systems typically support different work models. You have been asked to create a report on what work models exist, and which model is most applicable to your organization. Include the following information in your report:
Define each of the following: MIS, TPS, DSS, and AI.
Talk about how each can be successfully used in your organization.
Describe the relationship of each term in the transformation of data to information, and information into knowledge.
This information should be 3-4 pages of detail.
Section 4: System Development
This week, you will submit a draft of your Key Assignment template. Be sure to add the new material to this document in Section 4, and remember to incorporate any previous feedback into the appropriate sections. Your submission should contain the following information:
Part 1: Key Assignment Draft
For this week’s Individual Project, you will submit a first draft of your Key Assignment from Weeks 1-4.
Part 2: New Material for System Development Section
The organization has asked for a new Web-based customer tracking system to be developed. Take this opportunity to describe the differences between a waterfall model and a prototype.
Describe the steps that will be undertaken during the development of the system using a waterfall model.
Define each step, and describe what activities will be completed to develop the specific system.
This information should be 2-3 pages of details.
Finally, by this week, everything through Week 4 should be complete and ready to hand in as a draft of the Key Assignment.
