Each student is to prepare a 15-page research paper regarding a topic in our course. Each paper should include a Cover page, Abstract, Introduction, Main Body of Paper, Conclusion and a Reference page. Proper APA formatting and use of peer-review journal articles is required. GUIDELINES FOR MACJ RESEARCH PAPERS

Overview

The following guidelines apply to all MACJ research papers. Students who successfully complete these assignments will demonstrate the ability to:

· Conduct secondary research using databases that contain peer-reviewed articles from major education and psychology academic journals.

· Relate research to real-world education issues.

· Analyze and assess scholarly work in the field of criminal justice.

· Demonstrate critical thinking by writing well-organized, clear, concise documents.

· Apply APA standards in written work.

· Critically review fellow learners work through peer review

Standards

Length – All research papers written in the MACJ Program must be a minimum of fifteen (15) pages in length.

Format – Follow APA format/Graduate Program standards, for example:

§ Title page – Follow Graduate Program format. Go to Program Resources to locate the document: “Title page for student papers.”

§ Font – Use Times New Roman, 12-point font.

§ Margins – See your APA manual.

§ Page numbers – Include page numbers in the upper right-hand corner.

§ Headings and subheadings – See your APA manual (p. 62) for information about the placement of headings and subheadings.

· References – At least fifteen (15) references are required.

§ All references must be used and cited in the text of your paper.

§ At least five sources must come from major academic journals, such as those that are “peer-reviewed” in InfoTrac and ProQuest electronic databases.

Content of the Paper should be well organized and include:

· A Title Page in proper APA format

· An Abstract

· A strong introduction, main body, and conclusion

1. The topic should be introduced, the purpose of the paper should be clearly evident, and an overview of the paper should be provided and should include:

a brief history of the topic/issue, and the importance of studying the topic/issue.

2. The research paper should go from general ideas to specific conclusions within each paragraph. Transitions should tie the sections of the paper together, as well as adjacent paragraphs. The paper should flow logically from one idea to the next.

3. Scholarly research should be utilized and effectively described in the main body of the paper; information should be synthesized throughout the paper; including relevant and through discussions of sources that relate to the topic/issue and purpose of the paper.

4. The paper should demonstrate critical and creative thinking skills.

5. The concluding paragraphs should provide a summary of key points, it should connect to the introduction, and should offer suggestions for future research and/or recommendations for policy changes/considerations.
