Mid-Term Paper: The grade will be based on your original thought and comment, the quality of your writing, and your clarity of approach. You must use the two articles from class, “Turning Over the Rocks” and “The 51 Percent Solution” which you will find on D2L, as the necessary resources to reference the material needed to support your paper. The paper is 35% of your course grade. The topic of the paper is: Leadership and the Hospitality Executive: What leaders do to Motivate, Create Change, and Position People. The paper is to be a maximum of 10 pages, a minimum of 5 pages, of content, double spaced, with pages numbered and a cover page. Note: This paper requires that you interview, in person, at least one of the following: a restaurant general manager, a restaurant owner, a food & beverage manager, or an operations manager to assist you in gaining knowledge of the practices employed by those in leadership roles. These interviews should be conducted in person with prepared questions by an individually professionally attired. The session will allow you to enhance your exposure to the hospitality community. The transcript of your interview is not intended to be part of your paper and will serve as a reference for your paper. This midterm is due at the start of class, next Monday, October 16 and in the submission drop box no later than 5:45 pm.
