Additional Information:

After almost 2 months, the project charter is finally completed, and the preliminary project management plan is almost completed. Technically, you are supposed to wait until the charter is approved by the CEO and CFO before moving forward on the preliminary project management plan, but your team was afraid of time constraints. Jim sent the project charter for approval yesterday and is awaiting feedback today.

Sam and Gloria have joined one of your team meetings to discuss the project scope.

“I am not happy with the direction the scope of this project,” say Sam angrily. “This project charter is not complete and has not yet been approved!”

“Oh Sam, sit quietly and listen to what the team has to say,” says Gloria. “You are always so quick to jump to conclusions.”

“Is that so? Well, then, I am not allocating any money for resources,” says Sam as he storms out of the room.

“Excuse me, I need to speak with Sam privately,” says Gloria. “Please continue the meeting without us.”

Your team’s worst nightmare has come true. The CEO and CFO have stalled the project. No one is saying anything from the team. Everyone on the team, including Jim Young, is intimidated by CEO and CFO and is afraid to confront the problem.

“Leadership and teamwork are paramount to the success of any project,” you say. “When project management and company leaders do not agree, project implementation will not proceed.”

“What do you think we should do?” asks Jim. “I don’t know how to work with them when they bring their personal differences into a business meeting.”

“I think we need a plan on how to handle this,” you say.” Conflict resolution is the key to project success.”

The team starts to discuss how to handle and approach the situation without disrespecting the CEO and CFO. In addition, you discuss the various leadership styles and how best to motivate the team to move forward after an embarrassing situation.
