Letter to a Government Representative:  

Each student will write a letter to one or more of our governmental official(s) on an environmental/social/political issue, and submit it to your TA as well as the politician(s). The letter can be of any length.

Suggested California Politicians to Contact:

  • Senator Kamala Harris
  • Senator Dianne Feinstein
  • Your local Congressional Representative*

*Go to http://www.votesmart.org to determine your Congressional and State elected officials. Enter your 4-digit zipcode extension for a list of your elected officials. Click on the official’s name to get their contact information and voting record.

To send an email directly to your Congressional Representative, go to: http://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml (since some zip codes have more than one district, you might have to use the link provided to look up your 4-didit ZIP code extension).

Members of the class are also encouraged to join environmentally concerned student or community groups on and/or off campus, particularly Human & Earth Rights Organization (HERO)which holds seminars on Thursdays at 5:30 PM in room 1103 Muir Biology Bldg. For dates, programs and locations click on the HERO tab above. Participation in outreach programs such as Earth Day and protests can be useful for bringing the important issues to the attention of the general public and other students.
