During the period of slavery in America narratives written by escaped slaves were usually from the male perspective. Harriet Jacobs broke that barrier when she wrote Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl. She opened up the conversation that indicated slavery was experienced differently between male and female slaves. As you read the text, there are three areas you should focus on and gather evidence that supports the positions presented by Jacobs about the ways female slaves faced the struggle for freedom. 1. The ways women faced the struggle of sexual harassment. 2. The types of abuse women experienced other than sexual. 3. The sacrifices women endured to keep their dignity and families together.
As you read the text take notes and occasional quotes that support each of the three areas listed above.
Your paper should have one inch margins: top, bottom and sides.
It should have a font of Times New Roman size12 font.
