Length: 5-6 pages, not include the works cited page. A minimum of five complete pages is required.
Sources: primary text AND four (4) scholarly articles from a WTCC Library Database (ProQuest, JSTOR, NC Live, etc)
Perspective: Third Person only
Documentation Style: MLA 8th Edition
Paragraphs are unified and coherent, beginning with clear topic sentences and supported with content that ONLY addresses the articulated topic sentence.
Use transitions to move between ideas in the various paragraphs of your essay
Use the present tense, the convention of literary essays.
Avoid plot summary
Avoid biographical recitation
Avoid these banned sources: Wikipedia, CliffsNotes, Spark Notes, Shmoop.com, and any other resource that is an peer-reviewed and academically appropriate
Third person point of view is used.
A concluding section provides a sense of closure to the reader.
Correct MLA essay format, as well as proper in-text citations and work cited entries.
Adult literacy standards are met: spelling, punctuation, usage, grammar, agreement, and word choice.
The essay is typed in Times New Roman, size 12 font and meets development to the minimum page count of five complete pages. Essays falling below this minimum will not receive a grade higher than a “D.”
