GUIDELINES
– 1000 word essay
– An introduction, argument 1, argument 2, argument 3 and conclusion
– Include topic sentences in each paragraph and do not use other sources, but what is guided to you
– Your essay must focus on Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s This Earth of Mankind, and quote at least one substantial passage from it (of at least 50 words). Please do not generalise about the novel but refer to specific details and passages when developing your argument.
– Your essay must contain some reference to the critical readings on the Bildungsroman and allegory.
– The essay must be presented in the form of an argument. It is a short essay, so introductory and concluding remarks necessarily will be brief (3-4 sentences are plenty).
