Description
In an essay of approximately 3000 words, analyze one of the following novels on the course: Little Women, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Wind in the Willows, Kidnappped. You may do this in one of two ways: 1. You may write a standard essay in which you explore a number of aspects of the novel you have chosen. 2. You may write a lesson plan designed to present the novel of your choice to a class of students. In the second case, you may set your paper up with headings if you wish.
Whichever method of presentation you choose, you must establish a reason for writing the essay (presenting the text). For instance, you might try to verify the claim that The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a boys’ story that transcends time, or you might claim that The Wind in the Willows presents a story that perpetuates British upper middle class life. These are only examples, and I would prefer that you come up with your topic totally on your own. My point is that there should be a unifying element in your analysis. I want your paper to be more than a list of components.
Because this is an upper level course, I will also evaluate the paper on clarity, coherency, and attention to structure and basic grammar. Also, because you will be using the class readings in your writing of this paper, you have to cite these stories and tales using MLA documentation style. Although doing research on your topic is acceptable, you do not necessarily need to use any sources except for the class readings and notes and the novel itself. If you do research, your sources must be documented properly using MLA documentation style. Students who use outside sources and do not document themcould be charged with plagiarism under the university’s code for academic integrity.
