You will also have the opportunity to write a 10 page double spaced paper on topics in the course and if you have an acceptable grade (7 of 10 points) on that paper, you can increase your grade by the number of points you obtain in the paper, by a 7, 8, 9, or 10. For example, based on the grade distribution noted above, if you got 8 points on an extra credit paper and you had obtained 97 points you would add 8 points and thus would have 105 points you could move from a C- to a C+. If you had obtained 95 points and got 8 points on your extra credit paper you would have 103 points and you would move from a C- to a C. If you obtained 95 points and got a 10 on your extra credit paper, you would move from a 95 to 105 or from C- to C+. If you had 119 exam points, and you got a 7, you would move from a B+ to an A. In short, depending upon your final test score, an extra credit paper could boost your grade by two half grades.
That paper is due by November 17, 2016. Specific topics that you may write about appear below in this syllabus, and you should discuss the topics and your outline with one of the teaching assistants. You should select your paper topic, obtain at least 10 references to this paper, and draft a paper outline that you send to one of the TAs by November 4, 2016. The minimum of 10 double spaced pages does not include the title page, abstract, the references, or any figures. You will need to follow the Publication Manual format of the American Psychological Association; this book is required reading for Psychology 310, Research Methods, and it is available at the campus bookstore.
