The Lost German Slave Girl, questions 8

Chapter 10 “The Defense”

1) In this chapter, it is now time for the Defense Attorney, Mr. Grymes, to “prove” that Sally Miller was indeed a slave. What “facts” did he present in court to defend this claim? What were some of the interesting “twists and turns” in this case (in this chapter) as the two attorneys try to prove their side?
2) As this chapter closes, and the two attorneys have presented their witnesses and facts, what do YOU think the outcome of the case will be? At this point in the book, do you think that Sally Miller was indeed a legal slave/property, or should she be freed (based on the facts as read in the book, not on your moral thoughts about slavery — sorry, tough one here and touchy subject!)?
