With many changes happening without world today there are so basic principles that will remain unchanged the most important one is our dependence on water. With a recent issue of a chemical spill in West Virginia the people in a few counties are feeling the pinch of not having usable water from the convince their water faucet. The local government felt the issues from such a wide spread contamination with so many phone calls to poison control center as well as hospitals were dealing with the contamination of people. The benefit of the chemical spill, if there is one would be the possibility of reform to the Environmental Protection Agency. If we look at how this issue happened everyone keeps passing the blame onto the next agency so no one really has authority to make inspections take place or validate the effectiveness of the tanks as containment units. We have felt the issue of trying to get people the life essential supply of water. This has also brought attention to the fact that we have chemical containment units upriver from a the water treatment plant. Hopefully this issue brings light to further inspections of chemical holding areas as well as the importance of water (which we should know how important it is) to the support of the population in a given area. We can see this in the history of Rome as the reason they grew so big and reason they fell so quickly.

I chose this article since it shows the break down of many different systems as well as leadership failures. This illustrates how if the leadership fails to take responsibility for the assigned areas the employees will not care either. This shows the basic ideology of lead by example. When a leader shows their care or lack of care it builds an environment that no one will take responsibility for their actions. We need to look at the leadership that failed to use critical thinking when looking for land for the water treatment plant or the setting a schedule for inspections at the chemical plant. We need leaders that are going to take responsibility for their failures and also be forward thinking and ensuring they uphold the highest standard of practice.
