Math/Physic/Economic/Statistic Problems

Description
Start by looking at the years `1790 to 1860, which are the years before the Civil War and the end of slavery. Gathering information from Social Explorer using US Census data. The state is Louisiana!!!!!!!!!
Please give basic information for the state you are studying including the following.
Date it became a state.
Did the state secede from the union?
First census for which you have data from the Census in Social Explorer?
Starting from the first year the state is counted in a census, how did the population of the state change from census to census.
Which counties show up in your first census?
Were any settled later and/or became relatively more densely settled?

Then concentrate on the 1860 census. For that census (which was taken in 1859 make tables for
1. Total population for the state, free white population, slave population, and free persons of color for each county in the state
.2. Where is the highest concentration of manufacturing employment? What is the gender break down of manufacturing workers?
3. Do this by preparing both a table in excel format and a map for each Census for which it is available.
4. Look at the data and maps.
Describe in words what you observe. Where is slavery common? Where is it not common? Where is the largest amount of improved land? Then think about your state in terms of what we learned in class. Is cotton produced in the state? Other crops? Where are the largest plantations in the state? That is look at the data on how many slave holders had more 50 or more slaves by county. Where are they most common? Least common?
Look at other things as well, but start with these. You also need to use other materials for this.
Be careful about
1) Proper citations. The goal is for someone else (like me) to be able to find where you got any information that is not common knowledge. I would like you to use parenthetical citations in the text, with a more complete reference in the bibliography. That is in the text or in a table use (Smith 1980, page #), with a complete reference to the source in the bibliography using a
commonly accepted style.
2) Be careful of internet sources. Good ones typically have published versions as well.
3) For data from Social Explorer, use the citation that they suggest. Also, clearly indicate the year.
