CRITICAL REVIEW RESEARCH PAPER: PAPER TEMPLATE AND DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this paper is to fully investigate, using academic journal articles, your listening/hearing topic of choice. This paper will not require an experimental
study of your own, but you still will formulate one or more research questions and seek a thorough review of the literature that answers or attempts to answer your
research question(s). Please follow the research paper template discussed below and label with sub headings each section of your paper. The bibliographic format for
this paper is APA style. If you are unfamiliar with the APA in text citations and reference page citations, please google the latest version of APA style formatting
and follow the guidelines. The best source to search for excellent academic articles is via “One Search” on the homepage of the UNF Carpenter Library homepage. This
gives you access to a plethora of journal articles from a variety of different journals and is easy to use.

A MINIMUM OF 8 ACADEMIC JOURNAL ARTICLES WILL BE USED FOR THIS PAPER. WEBSITES AND OTHER .COM OR .ORG SITES WILL NOT COUNT AS AN ACADEMIC JOURNAL ARTILCE. THE PAPER
WILL BE A MINIMUM OF 7 PAGES AND A MAXIMUM OF 12 PAGES. NEVER USE FIRST PERSON LANGUAGE AT ANY POINT IN THIS RESEARCH PAPER.

PAPER TEMPLATE:

TITLE OF PAPER:

INTRODUCTION:

In this section you will introduce your topic, you may want to start your listening topic broadly and then begin to narrow down your specific listening area of
interest (for example: if you began with “Gender differences in Listening” this is a good way to introduce your topic by discussing some ways men and women listen
differently, but then narrow down your focus to something like “Listening gender differences in dating/marital relationships” and then you can introduce what will be
the focus of your paper. You may need to use one or more journal articles to help introduce your topic in this section. This section should be 2-4 lengthy paragraphs
long.

RESEARCH QUESTION(S):

Here is the section where you formulate one or more research questions to investigate: An example of a couple questions for my topic might be 1) Do Men and Women
cognitively process information differently? 2) Do men and women respond to visual and aural stimuli differently? 3) How important is listening for men and women in
dating/Marital relationships? The length of this section will vary depending on how many research questions you ask.

REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE:

In this section, consider it the “body” of your paper. You will need to incorporate a minimum of 8 journal articles (or more) of different journal articles surrounding
your topic and review the material within the articles/studies and write down the important findings from these articles. You do NOT write up one article at a time but
rather weave the articles into your own literature review as some authors may be in agreement with findings and others in disagreement with similar findings. Not all
authors or articles look at the same issues on the same topic nor find equal conclusions. This review of literature is where you discuss all the articles/studies that
you have researched to help answer your research questions. This section should be 3-4 pages long.

IMPLICATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS FROM THE LITEARATURE:

In this section, after reviewing and writing about what the literature on your topic has found, what are some implications or suggestions they have regarding listening
(specifically your topic) and address each of your research questions individually to see how the literature answered each one. Sometimes there is not a clear answer
to all research questions you propose so just justify why there is not a clear yes or no to your question. Most of the time, the body of literature will answer most
research questions. This section should be a minimum of 2 pages.

LIMITATIONS OF THE LITERATURE/STUDIES:

In this section, you should write about some of the major limitations of the studies you researched. Usually in every article towards the end the authors will discuss
limitations of the study and how the limitation(s) may have affected the results. I do not want a summary of every article’s limitation section but rather your own
synthesis of some of the limitations in the literature that may affect the findings and results reported on your topic. Again, this is a section that will represent
how critically you are reading and writing this paper and how well you can assess and analyze research studies. This section should be 2-3 paragraphs long.

FUTURE DIRECTIONS FOR THIS TOPIC/RESEARCH:

In this section, after having reviewed, analyzed and reported findings and new information on your listening topic, what types of future directions can be researched
or investigated regarding your topic. Usually each article will suggest some future directions for further research on each study from the articles. Please do not make
this a summary of all the authors’ future directions suggestions but a synthesis of where you believe all of this research is headed and what the future directions for
studying listening issues should be. Please be specific when discussing what type of studies, subjects, and so forth should be used when performing future research.
This section should be 2-3 paragraphs long.

DISCUSSION:

The discussion is more than simply a summary conclusion. In this section you will highlight and discuss the most significant findings regarding your topic that came
out of the literature/studies you researched and how they related/supported/refuted your research questions from the earlier section in this paper. Then, find a way to
transition this discussion into some concluding material (no more than a paragraph in concluding material) to end your critical review research paper. The
discussion/conclusion section should be about 3-4 paragraphs long.
