Tom, aged 76, has recently become a day visitor at a community centre for people with disabilities due to a stroke. Tom’s stroke affected the left hemisphere of his brain. Some of the major functions of the left hemisphere include speech and control of the right side of the body. The stroke caused some paralysis of the right side of the body (right hemiplegia), problems with speech, and some short-term memory loss.
