Proposal Review

For this proposal, you will choose one of the following scenarios and respond to it accordingly (600-1500 words). You are expected to modify and revise the genre-centered format while also considering your rhetoric (textual and visual) that fulfills its purpose and appeals to the audience. As you work on this project, you are expected to work through the genre-based writing process where you will design, create, review, revise, and edit a proposal.

Scenario 1: Get Lucky

You receive an email from your Head of Department announcing that the Bill Gates Foundation is expanding on interdisciplinary funding and has chosen NMSU to receive a 250,000-dollar grant. The email continues to explain that one department will be rewarded the grant, which means you can end up receiving an extra 2,000 in financial aid for the upcoming academic year. The email then calls for a proposal created by a collective of students that explains the signifance of their coursework, research, and how they contribute to the university and other communities. It is also explained that the proposal should also address how this money can help students achieve their future aspirations and how they may continue to serve various communities. After this proposal is drawn out, it will then be sent to the Board of Regents who will determine what department is most deserving of the grant money.

Utilize the proposal genre-based approach, as well as any other NMSU related resources, to inform and persuade your audience to grant the money to your department.

Scenario 2: Technologic

Your workplace or field of study could benefit from advancing their software. You have some programming in mind that could really help this environment work more efficiently. You decided to take a chance and propose it your Supervisor or Head of Department, since not much of the annual in-house-budget has been used. It should be noted that your Supervisor or HOD seem a little old school, but could possibly be convinced with the right understandings and rhetoric because they generally are approachable individuals.

Utilize the proposal genre-based approach, as well as any other related resources, to inform and persuade your audience that by investing or purchasing, introducing, training (?), and applying this software to the environment can ultimately lead to great benefits.

Scenario 3: Robot Rock

Samsung or Apple has finally released the first robot to assist in domestic or professional environments. Through advertisements, you have come to understand that these devices have basic artificial intelligence and are meant to be the ultimate assistant. You really want one to help in your domestic life but also to help run errands at work and school. You know your parents, guardians, or loved ones have been discussing getting you one for Christmas. However, because of all the controversy within media around these inventions, you know they are going to need some convincing.

Utilize the proposal genre-based approach as well as any other related resources, to inform and persuade your audience to get you this expensive but useful invention.

Proposals will usually describe new projects, present ideas, offer new strategies, and promote services. The purpose of the proposal is to present your ideas and plans for your readers to consider.
