Rhetorical Analysis of an Advertisement: iPhone X Apple phone
‘‘Introducing iPhone X’’, is a video advert uploaded by the apple company on the 12th of September, 2017 upon the release of their newest product in the market- the iPhone X or iPhone 10 Smartphone(Apple). The ad having been published on YouTube is released to the general public, to every individual who desires a phone that has the best features, both physical and software that would allow them to have the best phone experience at all times(Apple). The ad explains the intentions of the company for over 10years to provide a Smartphone that is classy and all round in providing its customers with the best services possible(Apple). The company through the video explains the creation of the iPhone, its features and the strengths it has over other iPhones and other smartphones in the market. The ad describes the physical characteristics of the product as well the software services it offers, explaining that the product is all display, with a perfect exterior that disappears into the experience(Apple).
The ad by Apple passes the message that iPhone X is a small phone that is all display, physical objects that companies the physical and the physical attributes of a phone to create a unique experience to its users(Apple). The ad describes that the iPhone X phone holds the best features in the market right from its display to its usability. The advertisement utilises an informative appeal to communicate influence and engage any individual who values the qualities that come with the iPhone X Smartphone(Apple).
The following paper looks into an advert by the Apple Company on iPhone X, the latest product of the Apple Company. It also looks into the content of the compelling commercial, how the message is delivered, the target audience and the reception of the video from the public.
The Apple ad, having attracted approximately 21.5 viewers in the last five days is no doubt one of the most views videos on YouTube. Though the video runs for 3 minutes and 39 seconds, its delivery is so good that it can capture, in details, all the features of the phone the simplest way possible(Apple). The video is well organised as it starts by communicating the desire of the Apple company to meet the needs of its consumers, and then going ahead and explaining the creation of the product(Apple). The video combines motion pictures with audio explanations, which take a viewer through step by step descriptions to understand how the physical and the software aspects of the iPhone combine to give the best Smartphone of all time(Apple). The motion pictures allow the viewer to get a clear view of how the iPhone looks from the outside and the audio allows them to get to understand the internal feature of the phone that cannot be seen through motion pictures(Apple).
Ethos
The advert starts by mentioning that the product if from Apple company(Apple). Apple Company is one company known to produce high-quality, prestigious products(Ramage, et al.). Because of the enterprise’s reputation, when a viewer learns that the product is from the company, it gets easy for them to trust the quality and the features of the product as explained in the video(Ramage, et al.).
Pathos
Throughout the video, the Apple Company explains how the product is made to suit the needs of the user. It explains that the features offered by the phone are all to the benefit of the users (Apple). Such arguments make the viewer’s feel that the company has their interests at heart and through that, they get to have a positive perception of the product and the company in general because they would feel that the corporation is to only after making profits but also making them comfortable (Ramage, et al.).
Diction
the ad uses a careful diction all through, the narrator is articulate, had excellent intonation and uses easy words in the explanation, for efficient delivery of the information making it easy for the viewer to flow well with the advert(Ramage, et al.).
Tone
The ad uses a simple, powerful and organised sound that slowly takes the audience through the advertisement engaging and giving them time for the commercial to sink in, hence allowing to feel just how good the phone is even before they purchase it. The tone, explaining just how committed the company is at providing their customers with the best products, glorifies both the company and the phone which creates a positive perception of the viewer on the company and its products (Ramage, et al.).Being a short video, with the motion picture moving as per the explanations, the ad certainly captures and maintains the attention of the viewer (Apple). The viewer moves through the pages with the narrator and at the same time get to get the idea of what the narrator explains in the implied picture movements on the particular page. However. The ad only looks at the physical and the features the iPhone offers but does not show how it operates experimentally. For example, the ad explains that iPhone X is waterproof but does not explain that feature experimentally (Apple).
Smartphones users make the highest percentage of the population using phones in today’s world, especially in the United States. iPhone is the most prestigious Smartphones of all times, and its acquisition is associated with class and a prestigious lifestyle. The Apple Company understand the evolving culture of the American people in regards to smartphones and turn created a product with features both beneficial to the young and the old as explained in the ad(Apple). The explicit announcement message is about the benefits of the product and how convenient it is to its owner. The video communicates how the iPhone is customised to meet the needs of each, provided with features that connect them with their owners, e.g. the face detecting feature it holds which gives the owner security and which adapts to the symmetry of a person’s face even in the dark(Apple).
So far, the video has captured a lot of attention from the public with its views increasing every second. The good reception the video receives is because of how good its delivery is compared to another video. The video talking about a new product from Apple also influences people to view as everyone would want to have an idea of what the company had brought to the market and their intentions. The launching of the product by the firm will challenge other companies to come up with competing for products that would match the specifications of the product a process that in the long run will lead to the development of smartphone technology.
