A normal Proctor compaction test performed in a given soil, Gs = 2.60, gave the results shown in Table 1.
a) What is the degree of saturation and void ratio of a sample of the compacted soil with a moisture content of 3.5% less than the optimum moisture?
b) What is the overall specific gravity of a sample initially packaged with a moisture content of 3.5% below the optimum, then saturated? (Assume that the soil sample can be compressed fully saturated with water without the occurrence of variation in height thereof).
