Interview with a person who has a disability

you are to interview a person who has personally experienced a disability. This disability can be acute or chronic (a short term or long term disability). Examples include but are not limited to cancer, multiple sclerosis, depression, PTSD post-traumatic stress disorder, lupus, fibromyalgia, and congestive heart failure, dementia. Your questions should reflect the issues and concepts we will discuss and read about in class disability technology.

This assignment requires the following:

  • A brief biographical sketch including whether your interviewee is living independently (NO), with relatives YES, a retirement home NO, assisted living facility or nursing home NO. How old is this person now 80? How old were they when they experienced their illness? 75 (20 points)
  • What are you most curious about this person?: how they manage living with dementia and blindness (10 points)
  • Define disability Culture
  • Are disability benefits universal?
  • Define healthcare in the US.
  • How do disability laws protect the elderly?
  • Define ADA and how will it protect individuals with disabilities
  • Tell me about the psychological and emotional experiences that have occurred as a result of your disability the family is constantly arguing because we are not sure how to deal with the disability.
  • How has your disability impacted your social life?  Describe the social changes that have occurred.
  • What are the three most important facts about disability and/or healing that everyone must know? (10 points)
  • How do you personally define disability?(10 points)
  • Finally, discuss at least one theory or concept that we learned about in class and explain how this theory relates to the individual we learned about disability technology. Please use two scholarly sources to support your theory. (20 points)
