In “Friendships and Other Loves”, Thomas argues that the loving attitude in romantic love and in friendships is the same kind of loving attitude. To show this, he uses the hypothetical example of two friends who symbolize their friendship with each other by purchasing two fine crystal glasses which they will use on special occasions with each other. Explain his argument (which occurs in the passage going from line 22 to line 56 on page 113); that is, explain why Thomas takes his example to show that the loving attitude in romantic relationships and in friendships is the same.
