Have you pitched a social program to your boss? What other tactics have you used or do you feel would be helpful?
This course helped the students to investigate the role of the organization in engaging with its community. Organizations that seek to make a positive social change assume the tasks of transforming the way in which people think and behave, their social relationships, institutions and social structures in order to make a positive impact on individuals, communities and the environment (Stephan, Patterson, Kelly& Mair, 2016). Through this class, we have been learning and examining many possible ways to impact local community through the corporation’s direct and/or indirect involvement. We not understand that those social initiatives carried out so many different social missions which were an incredible asset not only to the community but also to the organization. However, it is not always easy sell the idea of becoming a socially responsible company. We have seen many successful stories of B-corps, for benefit companies, and corporations with well-designed corporate social responsibility programs. But many of them talks about how hard it was to convince their stakeholders in first place to bring and integrate social responsibility to its businesses.
For this final project, I want you to think about how you can convince your boss to create/start a social oriented/ purpose driven program for your organization that never had this type of initiative before. From the required and recommended readings, and sources outside of the course, you have been learning those importance and impacts of corporate community involvement. Based on our class readings, your assignments and research outside of the class, try to reasonably persuade your boss with the usefulness of a corporate community involvement and its impact on both the company and the community.
Make an outline for 5~10 minute conversation (presentation) to your boss and a video clip of your conversation (presentation). Your conversation should be well supported by the readings and research. In your outline, you can also include one of the idea that you want your company to get engaged with. Try to introduce a new social initiative you thought about throughout this course that can be very well suited for your current or previous organizations.
