The war in Iraq that began in 2003 has been a major event for both the United States and Iraq. 4500 U.S. lives and that of tens of thousands of Iraqis have been lost. After U.S. troop levels dropped to just 500 in2011, 3000 additional soldiers were sent back in 2014 when the Islamic State gained control of several majorIraqi cities. Given the rationale stated at the beginning of the war by the Bush administration and subsequentjustifications for staying there, has the war been worth its cost in lives and money.
