Police and the Community

1. On December 18, 2014, President Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13684, establishing a Task Force on 21^st Century Policing to identify best practices how policing strategies can both reduce crime while building public trust.

This question will focus on 21^st Century Policing.

  Given what you have learned in this module, read on the COPS website, explain what aspects of 21st Century Policing do you consider vital in order for this type of policing strategy to succeed in reducing crime, promoting homeland security, and building public trust.

According to the authors, how does implicit bias influence judgment and behaviors?

Can the authors’ posit about race-weapon association be applied to explain some of the high profile police use of force incidents (i.e. Walter Scott, Michael Brown, Philando Castile, Charles Kinsey)?  Do you agree or disagree?

The authors’ make a number of individual and agency interventions to address Implicit Bias.  Do you think that any of these strategies show promise?  Why or why not?
