Points: 50

Guidelines:

  1. This project may be completed independently or paired with one – two other student in the course.
  2. Student/groups will review a specific county’s health data within the United States to find its leading cause of death.  Use 2014-2015 data.
  3. Student/groups will then research that specific illness or disease, its incidence, causes, symptoms, treatments, risks, and preventative management strategies.
  4. Student/groups will create a 5 – 7 minute marketing commercial for an original product or service geared toward the target population the health issue impacts the most. (SERVICE OR PRODUCT MUST BE UNIQUELY THOUGHT OF)
  5. Videos must contain a detailed explanation of the health issue affecting the population, disease statistics, lifestyle and behavior impact of the health issue, preventative strategies, and an original marketing product or program relating to the population health issue.  Marketing ideas can consist of places or things.  (Remember, when citing statistics, you need to mention your sources.)
  6. All students must be heard and appear in the video.
  7. The student/groups must also create a one page fact sheet that lists the health demographics/statistics of the county they researched as proof
  8. All YouTube links and the one page fact sheet should be submitted as an attachment on the Discussion Board.
  9. Student/groups will receive a score of zero if the county’s leading cause of death/illness is not the health information presented. (VERY IMPORTANT, MUST BE SURE THAT LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IS PROVEN IN SPECIFIC COUNTY)

Rubric:

  1. Level of innovation (5 points)

“How creative was the video?”  “Was the idea original?”

  1. Strategic communication (10 points)

”Did you effectively ‘sell’ your best practice or service?”  “Is this best practice or service effective, economical, easily accessible, and realistic?”  Has it been tested?  (If so, you might consider including a testimony or 2 from someone who has used it…..just a thought ☺ )”

  1. Educational impact (25 points)

“How well did you teach your audience about the problem and solution?”

  1. Quality of video presentation (10 points)

“How well was the video put together?”  “Was the audience able to clearly hear and see the presentation?”  Were there smooth transitions between scenes?”  “Was there good eye contact with the camera?”  “Did the presentation keep the audience’s attention?”  Any source of reading or notes used in the video deducts 10 points from the final score of the project.
