Positive Psychology – Research Paper
Research Project: The research project will be due on the date listed on the course calendar section. This project will be worth a considerable number of points, so it is important that you follow the directions closely. A research paper is exactly what it says: Research. You will be asked to choose from one of the following topics and write a paper that is 5-6 pages in length. The topics are:
Positive Psychology
Behavior Modification
Stress and Illness
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Meditation and/or Relaxation
Positive Thinking and Mental Health
You will be asked to research a topic and then write a paper in APA style. In case you are unfamiliar with APA style, there are many websites you can use to help you with formatting your paper. One link is http://www.apastyle.org. When you go to that link, look on the lower right of the page and click on “The Basics of APA Style.” There is a tutorial available to guide you through formatting. Please note – when writing your paper, you won’t include an abstract section.
When you decide on your topic, your research will be based on psychological periodicals. These are scientific journals (which are available through MSAC’s library), which are not the same as pop magazines, such as Psychology Today. A scientific journal is based on empirical research, not contemporary points of view. If you are unsure about the differences between scientific journals and magazines, please feel free to ask me or the personnel at the library. Websites such as Wikipedia and on-line encyclopedias are not to be used as references for your paper. Your research paper should include approximately 5-6 references.
