“What Are Your Weaknesses?” Video Discussion

Summary:

According to Antony Staggs video of “What are your weaknesses?”, it seems to be common sense that everyone has a weakness.Stagg wanted to share in his video is to never say that you have a weakness during an interview or else it is a 100% guarantee that you will not get the job due to the lack of confidence you have in yourself that the interviewer will see. Stagg uses the acronym WAR to help one answer the question. Using examples of weak answers and strong answers, Stagg uses WAR when describing himself when he has had a difficulty time with customers. Weakness states that pointing out a weakness you know you have, Action means your actions to overcome it, and Result means your plan for correcting/improving that weakness. Incorporating all three of WAR into your interview answers, then you will get the job.

Analysis:

It can be intimidating when getting asked about your weaknesses in a job interview, especially when it is your first time. This occurs to some reasons, one because you may think that you do have weaknesses but are shy to let the interviewer know so then you end up saying the wrong answer instead of the better answer. Another is due to one may be honest and explain their weakness and does not feel a shame of their weaknesses hoping that the interviewer will like honest people. Understanding the WAR method, try implementing it into practice interviews first before you go into a real interview to make less mistakes. At least having a practice interview, you will get feedback to help yourself become better for the real interview. In a real interview is not like a tape recorder where you can erase what you do not like, there is no take backs, so what you say is what the interviewer will take. I learned that weaknesses is nothing to be a shamed of because everyone has them and there is no such thing as a perfect person. I believe the interviewer is looking for when hiring, is for someone who has weaknesses that they can help build upon to help that person grow as a person or to better themselves. After being interviewed for so many jobs, thinking about WAR makes sense to me now when I am not in that process of WAR due to many experiences.

What Are Your Strengths?” Video Discussion

During the video Stagg discusses the importance of knowing what skills the employer is looking for. Often, position candidates give out a series of strengths that may apply to the job itself however, they do not go into detail. When providing strengths to an employer during an interview you should say what the strength is and give supporting examples and relevance to the job. It is mentioned on the video that the person that ends up getting hired for the job was the person that sold him or herself by giving specific examples and relevance as of what the employer is looking for in a candidate.

This video taught me that listing your strengths during interviews is not enough. Employers for employees that can express themselves and give specific examples of the strengths they describe they posses as well as job relevance to see what you will bring to the table if employed by them. Stagg talks about if your forte is sales then you give an specific example with data backing it up. If your strength is customer service maybe you give a few examples of some customer testimonies of doing an outstanding job for them and how you have handled difficult situations in the past. If you have received awards or special achievement letter talk about them too. By implementing “FAB” (feature, advantage, and benefit) lets you expose more to the possible employer by giving more evidence and tells him or her that you are actually the right candidate for the job. If you posses a strength like speaking a foreign language state it during the interview this could score big relevance points. Give prime examples like the one given in the video that talks about an individual taking over an account from a country that only speaks Spanish and closing a 3.4 million dollar deal on the extent of three years. If no one would have spoken Spanish and understood the culture more than likely the deal would have not been closed. Ask for time to give solid data that backs up your sstatements. It is mentioned that benefits sell always. Do not apply for the job if you do not meet the necessary skills to take on the job.

How to End an Interview?” Video Discussion

Summary

According to this simple video – “How to end the interview”, Antony Stagg provides an excellent approach to structure the answer at the end of employment interview. The job seekers are ought to prepare some questions for themselves and put forward these questions about future. Antony Stagg tells us that we should firstly ask intelligent questions about progression or training. And then job seekers should summarize the interview after they have asked their questions are. Next they should enter into clarity stage. Finally they move into closing stage. At the end of the video, Antony Stagg hold the opinion that job seekers should never stop applying for other jobs.

Analysis

The first stage of the end of the interview is that job seekers should ask questions that they have prepared before the interview. These questions should refer to their intelligence, progression and training in the future. This will help job seekers reinstate their commitment and interest in the job. Objectively speaking, the interviewer is able to see the determination of candidates. Then job seekers summarize the interview in a simple way at the second stage. Job seekers should say something polite such as the words in the video “I appreciate your time today and from the research I have carried out I would like to a a part of your team”. This shows the aspirations of a job seeker. The Next stage is that job seekers should make sure the interviewer is clear about the questions. If they do not understand their meaning, job seekers should reinstate them to alleviate some fears in the employers’mind. It is certain that job seekers should take the lead because their responsibilities. After they have asked their questions, they have duties to clean up any doubts for employers. Unless the interviewer is extremely intelligent person, the words in a mess will never make the job seeker hired. At the end of the video, Antony Stagg gives out the closing stage. This stage is about finding out what the next steps. The interviewers may make a decision to accept them or prepare a second interview for them. They can be bold enough to ask questions about the results. However, it does not mean that they should stop job seeking. They are ought to continue to search and apply other jobs. The reason is that job seekers never know what opportunities lay in wait.
