Essay Three: Compare & Contrast
In a 2-3 page essay, prepare a compare & contrast essay in which you answer the prompt below. You may include information from additional or outside sources; this is meant to be an examination of these two companies, not just specifically these two articles.
Use the articles in the “Essay 3: Compare & Contrast” tab by Tim DeForest, as well as any reliable sources you find on your own. Do not quote Wikipedia or use it as a source! Be careful to format your Works Cited correctly since there are two articles by the same author. Also, be careful that your in-text citations use a shortened version of the title in addition to the author’s name in order to indicate which one you are citing. Finally, pay attention to how DeForest capitalizes his name, and do it the same way.
Your task is to compare and contrast the world of Marvel Comics vs. the world of DC Comics. Both have made an incredible impact on our American culture, and there are some amazing similarities and differences between the two.
You may choose several angles from which to write your paper. You could compare the founding of the two companies, the general universe of each line, or perhaps choose two or three characters and their parallels from the other world to compare.
Give your paper an interesting title. DO NOT name it “Essay Three” or “Compare & Contrast.” Your title should have something to do with what you’re writing about, and it should grab your reader’s attention.
You must include at least one direct quote from each of the two articles, and it must be properly formatted and cited, both in the text and in a Works Cited at the end of your paper. Failure to properly cite a source can result in charges of plagiarism. Plagiarism information may be reviewed in the “Reference Documents & Videos” tab, under the “Plagiarism Information” folder.
