Prepare a review of this film, careful to focus on the analysis of that film and not solely on summary

Aim: To properly blend summary and analysis in reviewing a movie of your choice.

Skills: Research, critical thinking, resourcefulness

Task:

1) select any film that you would like to review.

2) prepare a review of this film, careful to focus on your analysis of that film and not solely on summary:

3) describe strengths and weaknesses in this film, what it does well or does not do well, OR whether it meets the expectation for its specific genre.

4) Build your film review by integrating summary in to explain or support your analysis. You can use outside sources (both scholarly and non-scholarly) in order to help build your own analysis. If you choose to use the information from any of your sources in your discussion, you must also provide a Works Cited page.

Criteria for Success:

1) Your review must be typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt font 800-1,000 words.

2) Make sure any outside sources are cited both in-text as well as in a Works Cited page.

3) Do not overwhelm the discussion with a summary. Use your reaction to the film as the basis for your argument – whether it is successful, worth watching, a good film, etc.

4) Use your reaction WITHOUT using first/second person pronouns (I, you, we, us, our, me, my, mine, etc.). In order to do this, make sure to use your position as the subject (e.g. “This is a good film because of the performances.”).

5) Refrain from using contractions as well (don’t, can’t, etc.): please write out the full word.
