Psychology
To complete your paper, you should select one character from the film and:
(1) identify his/her diagnosis or mental health challenge and provide background information about the disorder;
(2) discuss what features of the character’s behavioral and emotional functioning convince you of the diagnosis you have chosen;
(3) review the movie’s coverage of the disorder –
Was the portrayal accurate or not?
Did it offer meaningful/realistic treatment options?
If you could change anything about the film’s coverage of the disorder, what would you change and why?
(4) Your paper should also briefly cover major plot-related issues.
As you prepare your paper, you should make your final draft a stand-alone piece of writing that an adult (or savvy teen) who saw the film would be able to read, follow, and appreciate. In providing a diagnosis for your character, you should be sure to use fact-based information – not just your intuition. Be sure that if someone were to challenge your diagnosis, you could easily defend your decision based on facts.
