Select two essays from any of the following topics and chapters (both from the same chapter): Popular Culture Chapter 8 Poverty & Homelessness Chapter11 Gender Studies Chapter 12 Psychology and Human Behavior Chapter 14 Compare and contrast the two essays, explaining which is more effective and why. Some things you should consider are how strong the authors’ points are, how well the points are supported (examples, research, etc.), how well the essays are organized, and what kind of appeals the authors make (logic, emotion, etc.). Include at least one quote, one paraphrase, and a works cited entry, all properly formatted. For each Discussion Posting, you should respond to at least three other people’s postings. Try to respond to as many different people as you can during the semester. You will learn more that way. When I grade the discussion postings, I will check to see that there are four postings for you 1) the original 2) a response to someone 3) a response to someone else 4) one more response. In order to receive an “A,â€Â you must have all four postings by midnight on the due date. If you only have 3, the highest grade you can receive is a “B,â€Â if you only have 2, the highest grade you can receive is a “C,â€Â and if you only have 1, the highest grade you can receive is a “D.â€Â Your overall word count should be at least 500 words for each discussion, with at least 300 of those words in your original posting. When you respond to another student’s writing, be sure to respond to both the content of what they have said, as well as how they have said it.
