Psychometrics

Instructions: Written Assignment – Instrument Critique
Based on the instrument you have selected in Part 1. You will now critique the instrument (strengths and limitations) based on input from other authors, psychometricians, as well as your own knowledge from psychometrics.
Also, discuss how you go about evaluating the instrument with specific references to psychometric techniques. The discussion section in your paper should be at least an additional 2 pages. You must also include Part 1 with adequate corrections based on the instructor feedback. Ensure that you adhere to proper APA formatting.
Instrument Selected in part 1- Overview
Likert scale on the other hand is the most used type of scaling in measuring different psychological constructs (Jaccard, et. al., 1975). In this scaling type, respondents or participants are given choices of between five to seven or sometimes nine pre-coded responses that they should pick from in respect to psychological constructs under investigation. The idea is to obtain responses of participants in terms of attitudes and opinions (Dawis, 1987). Different statements are developed relating to psychological constructs under investigations. Likert scaling is mostly used owing to the fact that it is very easy to develop.
Test Development Plan Outline: The test development plan is about laying down the procedures and processes through which proposed study will establish reliability and validity of data collection instrument. The test development plan entails test content, target population, kinds of test items needed and number, instructions, scaling, and scoring. The following sections provide an outline of test development plan based on the aforementioned aspects:
Test content: In terms of the test content, it is imperative to understand that proposed study seeks to establish perception of individuals regarding leadership support and its influence on putting transfer of training learning into practice (Reise, et. al., 2013). In other words, the study seeks to establish how what individuals perceive regarding leadership influence their putting transfer of training learning into practice. Consequently, test content will focus mainly on the perception of individuals regarding leadership and how that supports influence in putting into practice aspects learned through transfer of training (Toplak, et. al., 2013). Hence, the test will focus on establishing items that can be used in establishing not only perception of individuals regarding leadership but also how such perception influence their actions in respect to putting into practice what they have learned.
Target Population: From the perspective of aims and objectives, proposed study seeks to focus on youth work professional, that is, individuals working with youth and young adults. Individuals that work with both the youth and young adults have been identified as the target population (Jaccard, et. al., 1975). As a result, the developed test will aim at obtaining various participants using a preferred sampling method, either probabilistic or non-probabilistic, in order to gather information and data towards achieving study objectives (Dawis, 1987). For the testing purposes, proposed study seeks to establish participants randomly from some specific strata. Whereas strata sampling strategy will ensure that every group is represented, the concept of random sampling from every group is to give each participant equal chance to be part of the representative sample (Schmittmann, et. al., 2013). Generally, youth work professionals form the target population for proposed study.
Kinds of test items needed and number: For the kinds of test items needed and number, proposed study will develop statements relating to perception on leadership and effect of such perceptions on practicing what has been learned during the transfer training. In other words, the proposed study will develop a total of 20 items for the perception and additional 20 items relating to how such perceptions would impact on the actions of participants in as far as putting into practice what was learned during transfer training is concerned.
Instructions: Instructions will be for the participants to select responses that best suit them. Different options will be provided and participants asked to circle the response he/she feels answers the question or statement provided especially with respect to perception towards leadership and how the perception influence putting into practice what has been learned during transfer training.
Scaling and scoring: Scaling and scoring are important aspects for the test development plan. For scaling, the proposed study will use a Likert scale in which attitude and perception of the participants will be measured. The scaling will go up to 5 with 1 representing strongly disagree with a statement and 5 representing strongly agree with the statement provided. Scoring on the other hand will be attained through getting the average of each response from the various participants. For instance, if there are three participants with responses as 2, 4, and 3, then average of 3 will be used in scoring the item measuring perception or impact of perception on application of what has been learned.
