Quality legislation and regulations are fundamental to all businesses, whether they are part of design activities or part of the review of requirements for the supply of products or services. A lack of awareness or understanding of the implications of these elements can lead to a significant risk to the business.
Your task is to identify for your management team the range of quality related legislation and regulations that applies to your organisation. You will need to show how risk to the organisation can be assessed and mitigated and the implications to the business if this is not done.
Identify how conformity assessment can be used to demonstrate legal compliance, and how quality management can be used to ensure that there are robust processes established to achieve and maintain legal compliance.
Include a real-life example, not associated with your organisation, but from the press or media of where an organisation has not met fundamental quality legislation or regulations, and comment on the short and long-term implications.
Task
Briefly introduce the business / industrial sector of the company which you have chosen;
Identify the quality related legislation and regulations that are relevant to that organisation and include, as examples, quality related legislation relating, as appropriate, to design, manufacture and sale of goods /services;
Explain how product conformity can be assured in your organisation by regulating both internally by quality assurance and by external third party assessment;
Identify the potential consequences for your organisation if it did not meet legal / regulatory requirements.
Devote a section of your assignment to explain in detail a real-life example from the press or media of where an organisation has not met fundamental quality legislation or regulations and comment on the consequences.
