Question #1: The impact of how policing is viewed in the community

As we move further toward creating partnerships and making decisions across the components of the Criminal Justice System, we need to identify the characteristics of
how the components operate that impact the effectiveness of those partnerships. Things that we need to learn are how the various components interact with the
communities that they serve and how effective they are in accomplishing their missions. If there are impediments to the effectiveness of a single component, it stands
to reason that this will impact the effectiveness of the partnership.

Study the Meares article included in the learning resources for this week and answer the below questions.

1. Compare and contrast lawful policing, effective policing and “rightful” policing.

1. Given the fact that policing resources are limited and crime, especially in high crime areas, must be controlled in order to reduce the impact and fear of crime to
the residents, why should multi-agency partnerships be concerned with how the community perceives the police who work there?

Question #2: The potential impact of negative perceptions of the criminal justice system on multi-agency partnerships

Understanding the external variables and the impact that they have on our Criminal Justice System partnerships is also critical to the success of these joint ventures.
If one component is misunderstood by the community, or a problematic relationship between the community and parts of the system is not accounted for, the success of
the partnership can be jeopardized.
