Choosing a specific country other than the UK, produce a report covering the following issues:
1. What is the role of the central bank, within the regulation and supervision framework in the selected country, for dealing with systemic risk, contagion, and regulation of financial business? (25 marks)
2. Compare your answer to (1) with the UK situation, discussing the merits and demerits of each approach. (25 marks)
3. Discuss the central bank’s regulatory responses, for your chosen country, to the global financial crisis of 2007/8. (25 marks)
4. Explain, to what extent, the country implements Basel III Guidelines on bank risk management. Discuss the advantages and challenges if the country fully adopts such regulation. (25 marks)
Guidelines
In order to successfully complete this essay, you need to make extensive use of the relevant literature, both from an academic and practitioner perspective. It is also important to be able to offer an informative and facts based personal view on the issues discussed. Avoid unreliable sources (like Wikipedia, Investopedia or blogs) and base your answers on academic and policy papers, as well as articles from well-respected press (like Financial Times and The Economist). Be concise, succinct, but, at the same time, provide well developed arguments. In terms of structure, an introduction and a conclusion are expected. Other than that you can design your own structure, and please logically structure the essay. Different individual will have different writing style, which is OK. However, please write this essay academically (e.g. please do not use “I/we” if not necessary and use passive voice). Please also check your reference style before you submit your work. Make sure they are following the university guidance which is APA 6th. Please consult with Librarian if you are not sure about the reference style.
