Peer Student’s Post for Critique by Noel. :This week’s question is right on my alley. I am the Information Technology Support Officer for my organization. Communication is paramount in everything we. Communication is very important to successfully accomplish our daily operations. We communicate with our staff, employees and customers daily and I will say about 90 percent of all the transactions that take place in the Directorate of Human Resources take place using technology. From email to Windows Communicator software to hold conversations to Video Teleconference to hold meetings, technology plays a vital roles in establishing and maintaining communication links within the organization. The effectiveness of our communication’s scheme relies on a well-structured network that supports internet as well as intranet capabilities in a very secured environment. The little analog communication that takes place continue to be used daily as a back-up when digital means fail. A lot can be done to improve some of our capabilities such as upgrading hardware and software, a improving our life cycle program to replace some of the old computers.

That’s a really cool tool! I never thought that UPS would
have a tool out there to help their employees grow and
learn about the company. The Air Force has a similar site to
help all of the Airman grow professionally. The networking
platform sounds like it could be really useful. I know
networking is key to success in most career fields, it’s nice
to see UPS utilizing technology for that reason. I see you
mentioned a lack of feed back from the employee up the
chain. Besides the yearly feedback you mentioned, do you
have quarterly and bi-annual feedback sessions with your
supervisor and if so do they ask for your feedback or is it
mostly one way? I know that I ask for feedback on myself/
the organization whenever I hold feedback sessions. This
could be a good venue to bring up any issues with the
company.
