1. Use one-inch margins on the top, bottom, left, and right (default setting)

2. Set your spacing to double space and do not change it. Double-space in all situations.

3. Use Times New Roman; 12-point size

4. Page numbering begins on the first page (half an inch from the top, right-hand corner) and continues through the works cited page. Use your last name followed by the page number.

5. Paragraphs are to be indented five to seven spaces (press tab bar)

6. On top left hand side of paper type your name (first and last), press enter, then type teacher’s name Ms. Ichino, press enter, type English III/English III Honors, press enter, type the due date 23 February 2017, press enter. (See Pokemon first page as a guide)

7. Center title after the above information. (Do not bold, underline, enlarge, etc)

8. If you use an acronym, spell it out the first time it is used and then you may abbreviate every time after that. Ex. Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD).

9. Do not use quotes that are longer than four typed lines.

10. Keep direct quotes to a minimum (average one per page). Paraphrase!

11. Follow all quotes and paraphrasing with the appropriate parenthetical documentation (Author’s last name followed by the page number if available)

12. Each paragraph must be at least five to six sentences long.

13. Underline your thesis statement (last sentence of the introductory paragraph).

14. Works Cited – Let your header continue into your works cited page. Center the words Works Cited at the top of the page. Double space throughout. Keep the first line of each source at the margin and indent all other lines of the same source.

15. Print out all sources used and turn them in along with your research paper in a manila envelope. Write your name, period, and topic on the outside of the manila envelope.

• If a paragraph is made up of the information of several different authors, cite it at the end of the paragraph in the following manner: (Garcia 8; Rodriguez 17; Adams 12).
• If you are defining a word within your paper, you must cite where you got the definition.
Parenthetical Citation: (“affirmative action”)
Works Cited: “Affirmative action.” The American Heritage Dictionary. 2016 edition.
• When you paraphrase, do not cite after each sentence in a paragraph if the entire paragraph comes from the same source. Just cite once at the end of that paragraph.
• If you use more than one source from the same author, you must include the first words in the title after his or her last name when you quote or paraphrase information.
