research paper – theology and science (Reincarnation in Buddhism)

Write a 10 page research paper making the connection between THEOLOGY AND SCIENCE in the topic of REINCAIRNATION IN BUDDHISM EXPRESS BOTH SCIENCE AND RELIGION VIEWS ON REINCARNATION AND CONNECT THEM TOGETHER!

Research Papers will be graded on structure, content, style, and clarity of thought.

-You will be expected to give a clear thesis statement in the intro opening paragraph and to form a cohesive argument. Your thesis should be clearly stated in the opening paragraph of the paper

-Spelling, grammar, and typographical accuracy will also be considered! In

addition you will be expected to use gender inclusive language when you are speaking about human beings in general.

It is very important to remember that you are producing a research paper, not a report.

There is a difference!

The following items NEED to be addressed in your INTRO opening paragraph (i.e. your topic paragraph):

1) What is the topic you have chosen? (explain it)

2) Briefly, what is the construct or issue of theology and science expressed by this topic?

3) How will your paper explore the limitations and possibilities of this construct or issue?

Prepare a thesis statement: state a hypothesis or problem you will explore throughout

your paper that addresses some limitation or possibility in this particular construct.

The body of your paper should also be driven by the following questions:

1) What is the specific hypothesis or problem your research intends to explore?

2) What do your sources say that give insight into your problem or support your hypothesis?

3) Create a cohesive argument for your hypothesis that addresses your problem. Having

thoroughly researched your problem, what conclusions can you draw regarding the

particular construct of theology and science that you chose?

Plagiarism: Plagiarism is theft of another individual’s words or ideas. This includes drawing

your information from someone else’s work and not acknowledging that you have done so in a

footnote as well as copying someone else’s words directly without using quotation marks and

crediting your source. Plagiarism will result in failure of the assignment and may result in

failure in the course and expulsion from the university. You should footnote all your sources

and use quotation marks when quoting directly.

It is advisable to use moderate quotations in an 8 to 10-page paper. In general paraphrase information in your own words (footnoting your source) and use quotations only when necessary. Please use Chicago style citation for your footnotes andbibliography. Papers should be double-spaced, and please include page numbers at the foot of the page.

USE A MINIMUM OF 10 SCHOLARLY/ACADEMIC SOURCES! BELOW ARE GOOD IDEAS OF WHERE TO FIND SCHOLARLY/ACADEMIC SOURCES!

  1. Published research articles from peer-reviewed journals (most academic articles and

journals are all online; so it’s fine to use this as an internet source)

  1. Academic books. Books by major University Presses are generally academically reliable.

Beware of other books that belong to specific perspectives, as some are “pop-science.”

  1. Case-studies on a specific research or reports from credible institutions, e.g. US

Government, United Nations, PEW Research, Center for Disease Control, AMA, etc.

  1. Conference proceedings or videos from academic lectures
  2. Articles from respectable media sources, e.g.Wall Street Journal, Scientific American

CITE ANYTHING THAT IS NOT YOUR OWN THOUGHTS!

Warning: Use internet sources with great care—anyone can write something on the

internet, so much of the information found there is blatantly erroneous or biased.

Books/articles on your topic must also be used with care. If you use any of these latter types of sources, you must do so with a critical awareness of their perspectives and biases and discuss this directly in your paper.
