Research proposal-the pathway core module

DISSERTATION RESEARCH PROPOSAL BRIEF PATHWAY CORE MODULE:

Context The pathway core module is intended to develop your critical and evaluative understanding of the pathway subject area and provide skills enabling you to argue for the value of your pathway specialism, while you to begin the process of identifying and shaping the topic of your dissertation. As part of your pathway core module and in preparation for the pathway dissertation, you are asked to develop a research proposal containing introductory information, brief review of literature and an indication of the choice of research methods. The submission is only a pass or fail and is reviewed and supported by the dissertation supervisor. It is a compulsory element of the pathway core module and its pass is required in order for you to progress onto the pathway dissertation module. Through the process of developing your research proposal you are able to build on the explorations from your research methods module, however this time around you need to make concrete choices and decisions in order to begin your pathway dissertation project. During the course of this module you will be required to submit a:

• Draft Research Proposal (for formative feedback)

• Final Research Proposal: (for pass/fail summative assessment) Objective This assessment enables you to plan your dissertation research project and to prepare the initial three chapters as a starting point of the dissertation writing up process. The submission prompts your thinking as to whether your research is in fact feasible, as well as enables you to plan your dissertation study and to engage with your supervisor in meaningful discussion focused on the chosen pathway dissertation topic. Assessment Credit will be given for:

• The quality of the argument presenting the links between research topic and its aims captured in research question and developed into research objectives

• The quality of literature review illuminating the research question

• The ability to identify appropriate research process and methods to achieve the research

• The overall quality of the proposal and its feasibility of implementation Submission Draft submission on Blackboard consists of a 1000 word (+/- 5%) draft of your final piece for formative feedback only by your supervisor.
