Research strategy – quantitative and pragmatic research
In this assignment, you will choose two research approaches that you might consider for your own research strategy and describe how each of these approaches might work. Discuss the merits and drawbacks for each. Finally, discuss whether you intend to use one or both in your own research direction for this class. Please choose appropriate approaches for your topic, even if the length of this term may not allow you to actually operationalize the approach.
Quantitative research and pragmatic research appear to be the most suitable for conducting research on cyber and intelligence and determining what mission sets should be cyber, intelligence, or a merged capability. With two entities combining the concepts of employment, command relationships, and legal and operation authority’s information needs to be consolidated. Quantitative research will allow the information collected to be converted in a numerical form, allowing a conclusion to be made.
Since the information consist of two entities merging capabilities, research without restrictions to the typical procedures followed in Quantitative research may also be suitable. Pragmatic research allows research to be conducted using procedures that appear to the most suitable, confirming all possible variables in an answer of merging cyber and intelligence capabilities.
When conducting research pragmatic research will allow the question to be fully exploited because it, uses lots of data sources, numerous different researchers and various perspectives to interpret the results, (The Four Main Approaches.” 2009.) With the topic I have selected I feel this will be the most beneficial research approach to use.
