Role of IT in Government
Scenario:
You were heavily involved in the successful campaign of Frank Steadimyer for mayor of Bloomtown, IN and he has asked you to head his transition team. Through the transition, he has requested several one-page briefing documents on a variety of topics and the current topic is the role of IT in city government. Frank is a long-time owner of a local construction company where he understood the role of IT in his business was primarily to streamline processes and reduce costs. He also understands that marketing has shifted to the web and most recently Facebook although he stubbornly hangs on to his Yellow Pages and media advertising. He does not quite grasp why the city has a larger IT Department than the one person employed at the construction firm and why the IT budget keeps increasing without reducing costs elsewhere.
Assignment
Put yourself in the role of Chair of the Transition Team and write a briefing document, no more than two pages, on the role and management of IT in government for Mayor Elect Steadimyer. This should be in 12-point font, single spaced and maintain reasonable margins. Use your class notes and readings to support your thoughts. You may also use other reference material. Please be sure to appropriately attribute your use of material. You may use any reference style (e.g. APA) and the bibliography may be on a second page.
