Rosie the Riveter

The experiences of men and women who lived through, and even died in, the great crisis of World War II were varied.  This becomes quite apparent when we look at the assigned readings for Week 13, including the oral history interviews with Nechama E., a Holocaust survivor, and Yekaterina Fedotova, a Soviet flight commander. Â

The lyrics to the song “Rosie the Riveter” and a video clip of war machine production have been added to this week’s reading assignments to help further illustrate the differences of experiences.  “Rosie the Riveter” was a cultural icon who stood for the tens of thousands of women on the assembly line who contributed to the war effort.

In a short, 1 page essay compare and contrast the experiences of these individuals.  How do they relate to one another?  How do they differ?  Are there any similarities between women’s experiences during World War I and World War II?  How do those experiences differ?  What impact did the Interwar years have on women’s experiences during World War II?
