Assignment: Respond to the fellow classmate’s forum response as if you are a classmate giving your positive/negative opinions/views of their post. USE THE UPLOADED MATERIAL FOR RESPONSE EXAMPLES. Their instructions for their post from the professor are in the following parentheses: “Communication is an essential means to convey important information to the organization. Or it can provide other information such as events, benefits and many other situations. How effectively does your organization use technology to communicate information to the organization? What is done well? What can be improved? .”

Peer Student’s Post for Critique by Sean T. : I work for a large international corporation in the shipping and logistics industry. UPS has leveraged technology to better communicate with the organization. This started years ago with UPSers.com, an all-in-one website where employees can learn about the company, how to advance their careers, navigate their health benefits, or sign up for tuition reimbursement. It is an excellent tool for enhancing one’s career and learning about the company.
In addition, UPS holds quarterly town hall tele-conferences where district managers, finance, and human resources can give quarterly updates on how well the business is accomplishing its goals and how each district stands in comparison to the rest of the corporation.

There is also a an internal social networking platform where UPSers can make profiles and communicate with other UPSers around the world. This is relatively new. I have not tried it out yet.

I would say that my organization does a good job at disseminating information to its employees. However, it lacks reciprocal feedback from employees. There are, of course, hotlines employees can call to report issues within the company but there does not seem to be much feedback expressed bottom to top across the organization, aside from a yearly survey.

I imagine communication from bottom to top is more difficult than a top down centralized communication outwards to the rest of the organization. This is likely because there is focus and clarity of message from the central voice of the corporation that is clearly heard. Many voices tend to create noise and blur the message. I do not have an answer to fix this issue but am interested in finding solutions.
