SFT discussion board

Miracle Question Discussion Board (10pts)

This discussion board relates to the learning objectives associated with this LM: to critically apply Solution-focused therapy (SFT) strategies.

The purpose of this discussion board is for you to gain experience utilizing the SFT Miracle Question in a role-play exercise.

Instructions:

Identify a willing subject (can be a family member, friend, friendly stranger, a person from class utilizing Skype, etc.) and have a conversation utilizing strategies from SFT, including the Miracle Question (PRACTICE and modify to fit your communication style BEFORE the conversation):

In the middle of the night, a miracle happens and a problem that you are experiencing is gone! So, when you wake up tomorrow morning, what might be the small change that will make you say to yourself, ‘Wow, something must

have happened—the problem is gone!’

In addition, ask appropriate detailed follow up questions (e.g., What would your partner/family/supervisor notice?  How would you know something has changed? Etc.). You are encouraged to make a list of follow-up questions BEFORE the conversation. Please video record the conversation to help with your skill development and to ensure accuracy in answering the DB questions. You will NOT have to turn in this audio/video recording.

Directions:
