The title of my dissertation is ‘discuss the portrayal of women in The Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummers Night Dream.’ As you have completed the first chapter, I would like you do to my second chapter which is ‘how are the women submissive through speech in The Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’ In the Taming of the Shrew, Bianca must be analysed and how she uses speech (her voice, language) in the play to be submissive and obedient. In Much Ado About Nothing, Hero must be analysed and how she uses speech in the play to be submissive and obedient. The same for A Midsummer Night’s Dream- a character must be analysed to show how that character uses their voice, speech and language to be submissive and obedient. For every point made for each of these characters, it must be backed up by a quotation from the play and the quote must be analysed in-depth to show how these women are submissive and obedient through speech. Also, feminist theory and historical context must be included in every point made about how the women are submissive through speech, the way they talk.
As it is 4950 words, I would like an introduction and conclusion. I would like 1500 words on Bianca, 1500 words on Hero and 1500 words on a character from A Midsummer Night’s Dream to show how these women are submissive through their speech.
