Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to explicate or analyze a reading that you choose from the assigned readings in Unit Three. The works you may choose from for your essay are: “Everyday Use,” “The Lottery,” or “The Things They Carried.” You are expected to rely heavily on your textbook to supply you with specific information regarding literary elements. The textbook contains information regarding character analysis, plot structure, theme, etc, in addition to information regarding literary terminology and sample student essays.
Requirements and Options: The completed essay should be a minimum of 1000-1250 words, and use MLA format. You may choose to write about any story that is assigned for Unit Three (see above).
In addition, you will incorporate some research material into your essay. But the focus of the essay is your analysis; the research material should only support your points. You should have at least two sources, such as articles or ebooks from GALILEO, or from books that you found in GIL. Those sources must be cited in proper MLA format throughout the essay and on a Works Cited page.
