1) Poverty line – defining the term
2) New poverty- how there are people who were rich who are now very poor, due to the economy
3) the Violence of Poverty – what happens in neighborhoods where poverty is generational and kids have no hope
4)The Nature of Poverty – how oil spills and hurricanes have thrown vibrant communities into poverty
5) The Labor of Poverty – how people struggle and work their tails off and yet are still poor
6) Drawing the Line – call to end poverty in our generation
Pick 2 or 3 of the above and write a reaction essay that reflects your sociological understanding
of the causes, consequences and potential solutions to the recent rapid uptick in poverty in
America.
